Donald S. Jacobs,
M.D., F.A.C.S.
Donald
S. Jacobs, M.D., F.A.C.S. specializes in laser vision correction and
cataract implant surgery. He practices at the Mt.Auburn/Christ Hospital
office,
as well, as at Cincinnati Eye Institute’s (CEI) Blue Ash location.
Dr.
Jacobs is a native Cincinnatian. He received his undergraduate degree
from Cornell University and his Medical Degree from Johns Hopkins. After
an Internship in Internal Medicine at University of Cincinnati, Dr.
Jacobs completed his Residency at University of Illinois Eye Center in
Chicago. Before returning to Cincinnati, he also served two years at the
U.S. Naval Medical Center, Charleston, South Carolina.

Dr.
Jacobs’ principal interest is in excimer laser treatment for vision
correction and is one of the specialists staffing CEI’s Laser Vision
Center. Dr. Jacobs’ interest in refractive surgery began in 1981, and
he subsequently became an accomplished radial keratotomy surgeon. In
1989, he became interested in the potentials of the excimer laser in the
correction of nearsightedness. Dr. Jacobs has traveled to
Berlin, London, Toronto and extensively in the U.S. to learn about the
latest PRK and LASIK laser techniques from the pioneers in the field.
Dr.
Jacobs has extensive experience in cataract surgery. In 1976, he was the
first U.S. military Ophthalmologist to perform intraocular lens
implants. He has been among the first in Cincinnati to utilize the
techniques of phacoemulsification, foldable silicone lenses, clear
cornea no-stitch incisions and topical eyedrop anesthesia.
Dr. Jacobs is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is on the
active
staff at Christ and Deaconess Hospitals. His affiliations include the
American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and
Refractive Surgery, the International Society of Refractive Surgery and
the American College of Surgeons.
