Cincinnati Docs Find Novel Way to Share Electronic Medical Records

The Cincinnati Eye Institute has pioneered a way for its ophthalmologists to share electronic medical records with primary care doctors at TriHealth, who often refer diabetic patients for eye exams.

The feat of computer wizardry is expected to improve health care for thousands of TriHealth patients, reduce costs for TriHealth, and help doctors at TriHealth comply with reporting requirements regarding patient care.

“CEI doesn’t make or save money directly,” said Clyde Bell, CEO of the Blue Ash-based medical practice limited to eye doctors. “In fact, we are adding some costs on our side so that the primary care physicians have better and more timely information about their diabetic patients.”
