James D. Faulkner, M.D., F.A.C.S. specializes in cataract and intraocular lens implant microsurgery. He is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He completed his Residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Oklahoma Medical Center with post-graduate training at the Massachusetts Eye & Ear Hospital, Harvard Medical School and the Wilmer Eye Clinic, Johns Hopkins University. He completed a corneal surgery Fellowship with Dr. Max Fine in San Francisco, California. Dr. Faulkner is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and has both published and lectured in the field of cataract surgery. For many years, he has organized and led national seminars, teaching physicians phacoemulsification and posterior chamber lens implant technology. Dr. Faulkner was the first surgeon in Cincinnati to perform phacoemulsification: a technique which allows cataract removal through a very small incision. Dr. Faulkner was also the first in the area to use posterior chamber intraocular lens implants and toric intraocular lenses (to correct astigmatism). He was also among the first group of surgeons in North America to implant the I.C.L., (implantable contact lens); a collagen intraocular lens implant for nearsighted or farsighted patients. Dr. Faulkner was one of the original investigators conducting research on the new soft silicone intraocular lens implant which can be folded and inserted through a very small incision. Small incision implants have proved to be a great step forward in lens implant technology. Dr. Faulkner has been elected to "Best Doctors in America" and "Best Doctors in Cincinnati" by his peers. |
