![]() William J. Faulkner, M.D., a cornea specialist, is one of the original founding members of Cincinnati Eye Institute. He is a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University and University of Louisville School of Medicine. Post graduate training included Internship at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (Stanford), Residency at the University of Oklahoma, and Fellowship at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary (Harvard, Cornea and External Disease). In 2013 he was appointed Director of the Urgent Clinic at CEI. The role of this service is to triage and treat emergency ocular conditions and, if necessary, to refer to the appropriate subspecialist. Many patients who are successfully treated require only this one visit. Dr. Faulkner alsodirects The Dry Eye Center at Cincinnati Eye Institute. Dry eye is a multi-factorial disease of the ocular surface that results in symptoms of discomfort, tear film instability, and potential damage. A new gold standard test for osmolarity is an important diagnostic tool not widely available. A treatment plan is individualized to reduce symptoms and improve overall eye health and vision. Clinical studies are ongoing. He is past president of the Cincinnati Society of Ophthalmology, Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at UC and a volunteer faculty member for the Bethesda Hospital residency Program. He is a diplomat at the American Board of Ophthalmology and serves on the Board of Directors of Cincinnati Eye Bank. Dr. Faulkner volunteers for Prevent Blindness Ohio. He travels extensively for teaching and speaking engagements and is team ophthalmologist for the Cincinnati Bengals. Dr. Faulkner is married with a son and daughter. He has served on the Board of Glendale Youth Sports and coached baseball and soccer. He has led Youth Group and has been a deacon and elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Glendale.
