Adam H. Kaufman, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Adam H. Kaufman, M.D., F.A.C.S. is one of the tri-state's leading corneal and anterior segment surgeons. He is Chief of Corneal and Refractive Surgery Service and Chief of the Uveitis Service at University of Cincinnati Medical Center. He is Director of the LASIK program at University of Cincinnati Medical Center. He is Director of Corneal and Anterior Segment Surgery at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. He is an Associate Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Kaufman sees patients at University Medical Arts Building and the Montgomery office of Cincinnati Eye Institute (CEI).

Dr. Kaufman has been repeatedly selected by the publication Best Doctors in America, and in Cincinnati Magazine's Top Doctor issue. Dr. Kaufman is a Harvard Fellowship-trained corneal specialist with broad surgical expertise that includes corneal transplants, LASIK, and cataract surgery. Dr. Kaufman's surgical expertise also includes multiple anterior segment procedures such as pterygium surgery, conjunctival surgery, excimer laser phototherapeutic keratectomy, and post-traumatic anterior segment reconstruction surgery. Dr. Kaufman is also an authority in pediatric corneal transplants and pediatric intraocular lens implantation. Dr. Kaufman is a Harvard Fellowship-trained uveitis specialist, and is the Tristate's only uveitis specialist.

Dr. Kaufman has many years experience with LASIK Laser Vision Correction. He served as a co-investigator on the VISX excimer laser while he was a Corneal Fellow in 1992 and 1993. By being one of the first surgeons to perform laser vision correction in Cincinnati following FDA approval, Dr. Kaufman has been able to actively teach laser vision correction techniques to other surgeons. He has directed three symposia on Laser Vision Correction for the region's Ophthalmologists. He has trained four refractive surgery Fellows and has twice been awarded the Teaching Award of the Department of Ophthalmology at University of Cincinnati.

Dr. Kaufman received his Medical Degree from University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Following a one-year Internship in Internal Medicine at the New York Hospital, Cornell Medical Center, Dr. Kaufman received his Ophthalmology training at the Columbia, Presbyterian Medical Center at Columbia University. After his Ophthalmology Residency, Dr. Kaufman completed subspecialty Fellowship training at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Kaufman is an expert in the healing process after laser vision correction. Dr. Kaufman maintains an active research program to study corneal wound healing, and he has been involved in Excimer laser research since 1991. He has also served as a principal co-investigator on several research studies to evaluate new ophthalmic medications. He has published articles and book chapters, and he regularly presents his work at the annual meetings of the Association for Research and Vision in Ophthalmology and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Kaufman has received a Career Development Award from Research to Prevent Blindness.

Dr. Kaufman is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, and he is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
