![]() Joshua J. Sands grew up in Long Island, New York. He initially attended Columbia University. After two years, he decided to leave college and join the work force. After a number of different jobs, he finally decided on a career in medicine. Following the woman who would become his wife to Omaha, Nebraska, Dr. Sands returned to college at Creighton University. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. He obtained his Medical Degree from Creighton University School of Medicine graduating Cum Laude. After completing his Ophthalmology residency at the University of Cincinnati, Dr. Sands started a practice in comprehensive Ophthalmology with a special interest in cataract surgery at the University. He has been Chief of the Ophthalmology Section at Cincinnati Veterans Hospital since 1986 and Director of the Residency Program at University of Cincinnati Department of Ophthalmology from 1990-1999. He has been Director of the Cataract Surgery Service at the University of Cincinnati since 1990. Dr. Sands was appointed Associate Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology in 1995. That same year, Dr. Sands and a medical student established the University of Cincinnati Medical/Surgical Eye Missions Organization. Dr. Sands has organized and performed many eye missions since 1995.
