Get to Know Dr. Riemann

Dr. Christopher Riemann is a vitreoretinal surgeon at the Cincinnati Eye Institute. He is the vitreo-retinal fellowship director at the Cincinnati Eye Institute and University of Cincinnati and is volunteer associate professor at the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine. Dr Riemann is a member of the Clinical Governance Board of the Cincinnati Eye Institute, is Section Chief for Ophthalmology at Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati, and is a member of the Board of Trustees of Clovernook Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired.

Dr. Riemann was born in Germany and emigrated to the United States as a child. He was raised in suburban New Jersey, obtained an undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering from the Johns Hopkins University in 1989, obtained his medical doctorate from the University of Maryland in 1994 and completed ophthalmology residency and vitreoretinal fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in 1999. After completing training, Dr Riemann joined the Cincinnati Eye Institute and University of Cincinnati where he has been in practice for the past 21 years. He is a volunteer Associate Professor at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.

Dr. Riemann has performed bench and clinical research in the fields of endocrinology, cardiology, and ophthalmology resulting in hundreds of national and international presentations and authorship of over 60 peer-reviewed publications as well as several textbook chapters. He has received the Senior Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), and the Senior Honor Award from the American Society of Retinal Surgeons (ASRS) and holds several patents for vitreoretinal surgical devices. He is passionate about, clinical teaching, complex vitreoretinal surgery, advanced surgical techniques, endoscopic vitrectomy, screen-based digitally assisted vitreoretinal surgery, instrument design and development, and multidisciplinary approaches to problem-solving across the fields of biomedical engineering, design, human factor engineering and medicine.
