Get to Know Dr. Nerad

Dr. Nerad joined Cincinnati Eye Institute in 2009. During his career as a surgeon and educator, Dr. Nerad has trained hundreds of physicians who now practice throughout the world. Dr. Nerad has lectured and operated in more than 40 countries.

Dr. Nerad performs a wide variety of cosmetic and reconstructive operations for the eyelids and face. He has a special interest in rejuvenation operations around the eyes including upper and lower blepharoplasty and correction of drooping eyebrows. Dr. Nerad also performs BOTOX and filler injections, CO2 laser resurfacing, and face and neck lifts. Dr. Nerad believes that the best result of any rejuvenation procedure makes you look better, not different. He is by nature conservative in his approach to these procedures and feels that a natural look is the best and only option.

In addition to cosmetic procedures, Dr. Nerad is an international expert in treating orbital diseases. He has published more than 100 scientific papers on a wide variety of topics related to eyelid and orbital surgery. He has authored and co-authored several textbooks which are among the most used texts in his area. His most recent text will be published December 2020.

Dr. Nerad served as President of the American Society of Oculoplastic Reconstructive Surgery (AS OPRS) and was the Secretary of Education for the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO). He has received many honors and accolades, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the AAO (2019), the Outstanding Contribution Award (ASOPRS 2019). He has been named among the Best Doctors in America for 20 years.

Dr. Nerad enjoys sports, especially cycling. He is an art collector, interested in ancient Chinese ceramics and precolonial African art. Dr. Nerad is married to Jodi Sobotka and is the proud father of two daughters, Kristen and Elizabeth. Kristen and her husband, Trevor, have a beautiful daughter, Campbell. Soon Dr. Nerad will welcome his second grandchild, a baby boy, into the family.
