Get to Know Dr. Kumar

Alisha Gandhi Kumar, M.D., is a member of the Glaucoma Service at the Cincinnati Eye Institute (CEI). She was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio. During her senior year at The Miami Valley School, she was accepted into University of Cincinnati College of Medicine through the Connections Dual Admissions (BS/MD) Program. She graduated summa cum laude with Honors from University of Cincinnati McMicken College of Arts and Sciences, where she majored in Biology and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. She then attained her medical degree from the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Kumar completed her ophthalmology residency at Summa Health System in Akron, Ohio, where she also served as Chief Resident in her final year. She successfully completed her fellowship in glaucoma at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute.

Dr. Kumar has a strong interest in treating glaucoma with medications, laser procedures, and surgery. Her surgical interests include glaucoma tube shunt implants, trabeculectomies, combined glaucoma/cataract surgeries, and minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries. She performs cataract surgery in patients with and without glaucoma. She is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Glaucoma Society. Dr. Kumar has co-authored many peer-reviewed journal articles.

Outside of ophthalmology, Dr. Kumar enjoys spending time with her husband, learning new recipes to cook, and working out.
