Preoperative Physicals

A medical history and exam are needed within 30 days prior to a patient undergoing surgery at one of our ambulatory surgery centers to ensure that the patient is healthy enough to undergo surgery.

Where to Get a Preoperative Physical

Our Nurse Practitioners, Christina Wilson and Meghan Hossein, can perform preoperative physicals on the day you schedule your procedure or any day prior to your surgery. Our Nurse Practitioner sees patients in our Blue Ash, Middletown, Mason, and Eastgate offices. This examination takes less than 20 minutes to complete.

Alternatively, you can also schedule your preoperative physical with your primary care provider.

Most preoperative history and physical exams are covered by patients’ health insurance, though a co-pay may apply based on the insurance carrier.

What to Expect During a Preoperative Physical

During your preoperative physical, the following will take place:

• A complete review of your medical history and a physical examination.
• A medication review. Please bring all medications or a list; include the dosages and how often you take your medication. Please include all prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, supplements, herbs and homeopathic remedies.
• Further laboratory studies or testing may or may not be necessary based on your medical history, physical exam findings, or what type of anesthesia is planned for your surgery.
• We will discuss and answer any questions you might have about your upcoming surgery. This includes what to expect on the day of surgery, what medications to take the morning of surgery, and other pertinent information to help you better prepare.
