Meet Dr. Balcells

Rosa Balcells, M.D., is a board-certified, fellowship-trained oculoplastic and orbital surgery specialist at Cincinnati Eye Institute.

Dr. Balcells was born in Santiago, Chile and completed her medical training and ophthalmology residency at Universidad De Chile. After moving to Cincinnati, she completed a two-year fellowship in Oculoplastics and Orbital Surgery at Cincinnati Eye Institute and University of Cincinnati. She previously worked in Santiago, Chile where she spent half her time at the University Hospital and half her time in private practice.

Dr. Balcells has a particular interest in surgical reconstruction, performing several lid and lacrimal lacerations repairs every week, as the Oculoplastics chief consultant at the National Eye Trauma Unit of Chile, and at the Plastic Surgery Service of a Pediatric Hospital.

Dr. Balcells is an Adjunct Faculty Professor in the National Ophthalmology Residence Program, and Assistant Professor at Universidad de Chile, where she trained ophthalmology residents. She is also a founder and preceptor of the Santiago University Oculoplastics Fellowship program.

Dr. Balcells is the current President of the Chilean Society of Ophthalmology. She is a graduate of the PAAO Leadership Development Program and has served as an executive board member of many ophthalmology organizations, currently including the Pan-American Society of Oculoplastics and previously as the president of the Chilean Society of Oculoplastics.
