Get to Know Dr. Chu

Fred Chu, M.D. is the Director of the Glaucoma Service at the Cincinnati Eye Institute and Co-director of the Glaucoma Service at the University of Cincinnati. He grew up in St. Louis, Missouri and was introduced to medicine by his father who was also an ophthalmologist. He completed his undergraduate studies at Princeton University and then returned to St. Louis to earn his medical degree from Washington University. He completed both his General Surgery internship and Ophthalmology residency at Rush University in Chicago. He then completed his fellowship in glaucoma at the prestigious Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Dr. Chu is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Chu performs cataract surgery and a variety of laser and surgical procedures for the treatment of glaucoma. He sees a wide spectrum of pathology from mild to the most severe and complex. Dr. Chu sees patients at the Edgewood office in Northern Kentucky. He also devotes time to teaching residents at the University of Cincinnati and serves as the Director of the Glaucoma Fellowship at the Cincinnati Eye Institute.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Chu enjoys sports, rooting for his hometown St. Louis Cardinals, and spending time with his family.
