Fred B. Chu, M.D.

Fred B. Chu, M.D. is a member of the Glaucoma Service at the Cincinnati Eye Institute. He grew up in St. Louis, Missouri and was first introduced to medicine by his father, who is also an ophthalmologist. He completed his undergraduate studies at Princeton University where he majored in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and received a Certificate in Finance. He returned to St. Louis to earn his medical degree from Washington University. He went on to complete an internship in General Surgery and residency in Ophthalmology at Rush University in Chicago, where he also served as Chief Resident. He then completed his fellowship in glaucoma at the prestigious Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
Dr. Chu performs cataract surgery as well as a variety of surgical and laser procedures for the treatment of glaucoma. In addition to his clinical work, he has presented research at several national meetings including the American Glaucoma Society and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology for which he was awarded a National Eye Institute Travel Grant.
Dr. Chu sees patients at the Blue Ash office in Cincinnati and Edgewood office in Northern Kentucky. In addition to his private clinical duties, he devotes time to teaching Ophthalmology residents at the University of Cincinnati.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Chu enjoys many outdoor sports and rooting for his hometown St. Louis Cardinals. He and his wife also enjoy cooking, travel and spending time with their Corgi-mix, Bella.
