Get to Know Dr. Abdulaal

Marwan Abdulaal, M.D. is a member of the vitreoretinal service at Cincinnati Eye Institute (CEI). He is board-certified in ophthalmology. Dr. Abdulaal, did two residencies in ophthalmology. The first was at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon, and the second was at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio. He completed fellowship training in medical retina at Harvard Medical School and surgical retina at UT Southwestern, Dallas, Texas. His peers awarded him the best fellow teaching award in 2016.

He was involved in the teaching and education of Ophthalmology residents and medical students, which he continues to do now in conjunction with the University of Cincinnati, where he holds an academic appointment. He has authored and co-authored multiple articles in peer-reviewed ophthalmic publications and presented several research projects at national scientific meetings. He was awarded Rabb-Venable, Resident Research Award 2021.

He has a strong interest in retina, particularly diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, vascular diseases of the retina, and complex retinal detachment repair.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Abdulaal enjoys tennis, soccer, and traveling.
