Robert E. Foster, M.D. is a member of the vitreoretinal service at Cincinnati Eye Institute (CEI). His undergraduate education was at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan where he received a degree in Biology, graduated from the Honors College, and was named among the Top 25 Graduating Seniors. He went to medical school at the University of Michigan Medical School, graduating in 1988. His internship was at Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio, where he was selected as the Intern of the Year.  He completed an Ophthalmology Residency at Cleveland Clinic serving as Chief Resident in his final year. Additional subspecialty training in medical and surgical disease of the retina was undertaken at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute associated with University of Miami School of Medicine.

Dr. Foster then joined the professional staff of Cleveland Clinic Foundation where he developed a busy referral practice between 1993-1997. While at the Cleveland Clinic, he was involved in the teaching and education of Ophthalmology Residents and Fellows. He co-authored more than 40 peer review publications and was involved in clinical and more basic research in diseases of the retina, macula, and vitreous.  Additionally, he has had the opportunity to lecture across the country and internationally.

Dr. Foster joined CEI in January of 1997 and sees patients at the main office in Blue Ash. He has a strong interest and expertise in all medical and surgical diseases that affect the retina, macula, and vitreous, particularly diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal detachment and vascular diseases of the retina.

Dr. Foster is a Board Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He also belongs to the Retinal Society, the American Society of Retina Specialists (formerly the Vitreous Society), the Society of Heed Fellows, the Cincinnati Society of Ophthalmology and the Academy of Medicine of Cincinnati.  He has been selected among The Best Doctors in America and recently received the American Academy of Ophthalmology Achievement Award. Dr. Foster serves on the Board of Directors at CEI and is the Chairman of the Board.
