Robert E. Foster, M.D. is a member of the vitreoretinal service at Cincinnati Eye Institute (CEI). His undergraduate education was at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan where he received a degree in Biology, graduated from the Honors College, and was named among the Top 25 Graduating Seniors. He went to medical school at the University of Michigan Medical School, graduating in 1988. His internship was at Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio, where he was selected as the Intern of the Year. He completed an Ophthalmology Residency at Cleveland Clinic serving as Chief Resident in his final year. Additional subspecialty training in medical and surgical disease of the retina was undertaken at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute associated with University of Miami School of Medicine.

Dr. Foster then joined the professional staff of Cleveland Clinic Foundation where he developed a busy referral practice between 1993-1997. While at the Cleveland Clinic, he had the opportunity to lecture across the country and internationally. He was involved in the teaching and education of Ophthalmology Residents and Fellows, which he continues to do now in conjunction with the University of Cincinnati where he holds an academic appointment. He has co-authored more than 70 peer review publications and is involved in clinical research involving diseases of the retina, macula, and vitreous.

Dr. Foster joined CEI in January of 1997 and sees patients at the main office in Blue Ash. He has a strong interest and expertise in all medical diseases that affect the retina, macula, and vitreous, particularly diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and vascular diseases of the retina.
